Description: Ezernieki (Bukmuiza - the name of Ezernieki until 1939)
folklore ensemble Akmiņeica was founded November 16, 1988. It can be
characterized as ensemble with many participants from different age groups.
The name of the ensemble has been taken by the participants from a nearby
river Akmineica, flowing in Ezernieki parish.
Participants of the ensemble are optimistic, responsive, full of energy,
and love to the folk song. The ensemble has acted in many places: in Riga,
Tukums, Pedvale, Dagda, Kraslava, Rezekne, Ludza, even in Vitebsk, has
participated in festivals Baltika-94 and Baltika-97, in Latgalian
songs fest in 1990 in Daugavpils, in XXI and XXII Songs fests in Riga.
Akmiņeica performs Latgalian folk songs. During the decade about
80 songs have been sung, at present there are more than 20 songs in the active
repertoir, one third of which are from Bukumuiza. Unfortunately, we have not
more narrators alive in our area, therefore the repertoir is replenished by
materials of the Folklore institute.
