Review for the festival Baltica'03, Daugavpils,
On Saturday, December 7, a review of Baltica passed in Daugavpils
(Dinaburg).
In the beginning in together have performed two folklore
ensembles of Daugavpils Latvian society -
Dzīsme and Dzīsmeite.
Sang, danced and played both olds and youngs. The big number of
participants and the high quality of the musical performance have produced a very
good impression. However, in performance were some very scenic
elements, probably, because of academic musical education of group's leader.
Nicgale folklore ensemble sang about course of life. Despite of some
academical arrangements, the performance was good. Both in women and men
was a pleasure of participation and singing.
The next, with songs of haymaking, performed Naujene folklore ensemble
Rūžeņas. The leader of ensemble has very strong and loud voice,
therefore the whole ensemble sounded well.
Dubna folklore ensemble began to prepare to the review only a
month ago - because of change of chief. Therefore it was impossible
to reach a good level. Unfortunately, the new leader does not know
the tradition yet, so she should learn a lot.
Vishki folklore ensemble began the performance with a patriotic
Latgalian poem, told in roles. Through poem the group came to
the subject of the festival - ground, the songs were about different
displays of it. Though in group were some choral voices, all in all
they sang well.
The concert was finished by hosts - folklore ensemble of the Daugavpils
district's Culture house Svātra.
The ensemble executed postfolklore (world music) of a good level:
sonorous many-voicing, good playing on psaltery, violin, guimbarde, pipe. Songs' recordings from this activity:
