Description: At the end of 1982 some Rucava singers "of an old leaven"
had gather and together sung some wedding songs. Hereon appeared an idea
to create an ensemble. Songs we learned from the local narrators. The first
performance was held in April 1983 in our village. This year we have celebrated
our 15'th anniversary and on this occasion we recorded an audio cassette.
In the ensemble sing all - small children, men and women, and wenches too. We
sing only songs of Rucava area on the local vernacular. In our repertoir there
are match-making, wedding, baptism, labour, sea-songs and other songs. Thematic
programs are developed.
We have participated in all the Baltika festivals taking place in Latvia;
acted in all regions of Latvia and also in Lithuania, Moscow, Germany.
Rucava folk costume is very beautiful. Women often have them even two. The
three shawles are fastened with silver brooches. The richer the woman the more
brooches she has.
