Description: The collective was formed in March 1993 by some active
people of the Barkava parish. Its name (Madava - a boundary river of our
parish) was assigned to the group relatively recently.
The basis of the group is formed by several families, people of different
generations. Our purpose is to put into practice folk traditions in family
life, as well as the conservation of Latgalian customs and rites.
In our repertoir there are Latgalian songs, roundelays, verbal folklore,
basically from Barkava and vicinities. We perform household and calendar dance
games, dances, and relatively new romances too. With pleasure in programs we
include a verbal folklore, for example jokes.
The group sing chaffing songs on weddings, we celebrate John's day
together, on Christmas we go mumming. We have participated in folklore
festivals Baltica-94 and Baltica-97.
After "work on meadow" before festival Baltica-97
